Monmouth Cemetery Group....
The Friends of Monmouth Cemetery first started to meet in September 2006. Their aim is to draw up conservation and restoration plans to make the cemetery accessible to the local citizens and wider public. Volunteers from the group and others assist with the research, surveys and practical tasks. At all times the group encourage biodiversity on the site and explore the potential for using the cemetery as an educational resource. The group have drawn up a management plan for the ground of the cemetery in terms of the flora and fauna. A system has been devised to update cemetery records and currently they exploring ways in which this information can be made available to the public. Funding has been sought to restore the old chapel on the site and turn it into a genealogy centre. We hope to find out by June 2008 if we have been successful with the bid. |
