Sustainable Travel Group

Sustainable Travel Group....

The Sustainable Travel Group has developed from the Traffic and Transport Sub-Group, following its Report on improving Monnow Street.

Action on controlling traffic in Monnow Street is in the hands of the Town Centre Group, while the STG will consider travel and traffic problems over the wider town area. We are examining problems with, and ways of improving, public transport, parking, speed limits, accessibility for disabled people, walking and cycling, and promotional campaigns for sustainable travel.

The aim is to improve travel in Monmouth in an environmentally sustainable way, and in a way which enhances the town as an attractive place to live, work and shop. Initially, we will be concentrating on the failings of town bus services, especially for residents of Wyesham, the need for better long-distance services, and better integration and information, and we will be making plans for a car-free day to demonstrate the need to shift the balance towards more sustainable travel.

We will liase closely with other Task Groups which have overlapping interests, especially the Green Light Group, Monmouth Links and the Town Centre Group.

The next meeting is on April 16th at 9.30am at Annette's house. Contact Phil Bly on 01600 719787 or email:
